GAF Roof Mate™ Base Coat is a water-based acrylic elastomer base roof coating utilizing the latest advances in acrylic technology. It is a “breathable” base coat, allowing moisture vapor to pass through the film while remaining resistant to mass water penetration. Roof Mate™ Base Coat helps improves adhesion of the top coat on most substrates and provides bleed blocking on asphalt roofs. It builds a film thickness necessary to protect the roof, and therefore it counts as the first coating layer.
